GPS-alarm

Q: Can I install the alarm by myself?

A: YachtSafe is the most easy-to-install GPS alarm. The system is made so that you can install it easily yourself. The little alarm device has internal antennas, only three wires for connection (G31 & G32) and no SIM card needed. The alarm is activated with the Yachtsafe App, or with a text message that is sent to the alarm device.

Q: How do I pay the GSM traffic?

A: The alarm is delivered with a built in SIM-card and you will pay a fixed price for the GSM-traffic each year. This due to:

1) YachtSafe’s GPS-alarm unit is completely encapsulated to be water proof and tolerant against vibrations. This means however that there are no openings or possibilties to connect your own SIM-card.

2) Pay as you go-cards are neither reliable and the biggest insurance companies do not recommend to use this. That's because if you run out of money on the Pay as you go-card the alarm system will not work.

Q: What can I use the external output for?

A: The external output can be used for connection of a relay which operate a fridge or a heater that can be activated with you phone. The output can also be used for easy connection of a siren which then is activated if a wireless IR-sensor is activating an alarm as an example.

Q: Why is the alarm not responding through the app?

A: The Alarm probably got poor GSM coverage where it is stored. Test if it works to communicate with the alarm via SMS command (ex: pin gps, pin status, pin alarm on, pin alarm off). Try moving the alarm to a different geographic location where it may be poor coverage where the alarm is located.

A: Why is the alarm not responding on SMs command or the app?

A: It can be due to several reasons;

1) See if the GSM traffic is active, log in on the home page, under administer alarm to see if the GSM traffic is active.

2) Double-check that all numbers and email address in the app are correct.

3) Check that the alarm device is connected to voltage. Please measure the voltage on the alarm if you are able.

4) Can happen that an update of the software failed and hung the alarm, then its required a reboot of the device. HW2 alarm be de-power for 7 days, HW3 alarm connect cables plust to minus and minus to plus for about 10 sec.

Alarm device responds to SMS commands (such as "pin status"), but does not respond to the application.

Check the app;

App-> app settings: phone numbers to your phone.

App-> Alarm profile: phone numbers for alarm device and PIN code to the alarm device shall be indicated.

another reason may be that the alarm is set in power-saving mode. Use the remote to switch between 2 different modes. Low power mode can be used for example winter storage and means that the GSM portion is completely turned off and starts only when an alarm is triggered. This saves on the battery as it consumed less power.

Change the mode by pressing the "Star" button on the remote control during ca10 sek until it Flashing. On older remotes remote control flashes 2 times (normal mode) or 3 x (low power mode). On newer model remote control blinks twice and seends a confirmation SMS to alarm receivers in which mode the alarm device is set.

Q: GSM Coverage

A: The alarm units works within Europe in the following countries: Sweden, Finland, Norway (in Norway you need to use the operators Telia or Telenor, no other operators will function completely in the yachtsafe application), Denmark, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Lichtenstein, Luxemburg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain (incl Mallorca and Gran Canaria), Switzerland and United Kingdom.

(Unfortunately, our operator currently does not have GSM coverage in Montenegro).

Q: Why is there no access GPS location?

A: The alarm updates its position every ten minutes and try to do this for a limited period of time not to consume too much of your internal battery capacity. If GPS signals are disturbed by something, such as GPS signals are shielded by any metal or the alarm is wrong oriented, can make it difficult for the alarm to update its position. Examine its orientation and placement, turn on the alarm and wait 10 min and ask for its position again. Normally the alarm find a position now but please note that the ability to get into the GPS signals are reduced if it is indoors.

Q: Why is the movement alarm delayed?

When the alarm is switched on it freezes its position if it has a current GPS position. Turn on the alarm in the garage and it fails to calculate its GPS position (due to weak satellite signals), it may take until the alarm comes out of the garage before it can calculate the position and then detect a movement. Try to activate the alarm when it has a current GPS position. By activating the alarm starts the GPS chip and try to calculate their position for 10 min, it can help to deactivate the alarm and then turn it on again to update position.

Q: I have forgot the pin code to the alarm, what should I do?

You need to send an email to support@yachtsafe.se

Q: What if I want to sell an item with a YachtSafe alarm?

Each alarm has a registered owner, and via the tab Register GPS alarm on our homepaige, you can change the owner of the alarm, for example, if you want to sell your vehicle with an YachtSafe alarm.

Q: The battery lifetime seems to be too short on my alarm?

The battery life is a compromise between the particularly GPS performance and service life of the internal battery. If the alarm is difficult to calculate their position due to weak GPS signals, it may need to seek longer or may not manage to get enough data from the satellites to calculate their position at all and then consumed more power. Normaly the battery life on the internal battery is up to a week in normal mode, up to 6 months in low-power mode and up to 2 weeks in triggered alarm mode.

Always try to mount the alarm so that the GPS signals are not disturbed by other electronic devices or metal.
